What was Action T4?Action T4 was a program issued by Nazi Germany in 1939. Physicians were required to judge their patients as "incurably sick, by critical medical examination" and administer them euthanasia. Citizens would send in sick or mentally ill relatives under the idea that they would receive treatment, only to receive a letter back that they passed away in the process. In actuality, these people were killed, usually by gassing or lethal injections. Children were also victims, as doctors would euthanize newborn children thought to have mental illnesses, telling the parents that their child was stillborn. The program was terminated in 1941, but it was secretly still in effect until the defeat of Germany in 1945.
